Best review request tools for contractors in 2026: an honest comparison

Five tools, read from their own pricing and product pages on the same day. What they cost, who sends the text, and which kind of contractor each one is built for.

In short

  • There is no single best tool. The real choice is between software that sends requests for you and software that helps you send them yourself.
  • Published prices on October 4, 2026: Podium from $399 a month, NiceJob from $75, Jobber’s Marketing Suite (which includes Reviews) $99 on top of a Jobber plan, Own Your Ratings free or $35. Birdeye quotes after a form.
  • Already on Jobber? Its Reviews feature is the obvious first test. Running many locations? Birdeye and Podium are built for you.
  • Own Your Ratings is made by Pikwize’s publisher. It is listed here with the same checks as the others.

A review request tool does one job: it gets your Google review link in front of a customer at the right moment. Everything else, from AI replies to text marketing, is extra. That matters, because the five tools below range from free to several thousand dollars a year, and most of the difference is in the extras.

A note before you read. Pikwize is published by WH Médias, which also makes Own Your Ratings, one of the five tools below. We checked every tool the same way: we read each company’s own pricing and product pages on October 4, 2026, linked them, and wrote “not stated” when something was not on those pages. Prices change; check before you buy.

What a year actually costs

Monthly prices hide the real number. Here is our arithmetic from the published prices, for a single location, before taxes and any add ons:

  • Podium Core: $399 × 12 = $4,788 a year. Podium’s pricing page also lists a base 10DLC fee of $5 a month for all US locations, the carrier registration that business texting platforms go through.
  • NiceJob Starter: $75 × 12 = $900 a year. Pro comes to $1,500.
  • Jobber with Reviews: the Marketing Suite at $99 × 12 = $1,188, plus your Jobber plan. On the cheapest plan billed annually, $29 × 12 = $348, the total is $1,536. If you already pay for Jobber, the extra cost is the $1,188.
  • Own Your Ratings Pro: $350 a year on the yearly plan, or $420 paid monthly.
  • Birdeye: unknown until you fill in the form.

The real choice: who presses send

Strip away the feature lists and the tools split into two families.

Automatic senders. Podium, NiceJob, Birdeye and Jobber all send requests for you once they are connected to your customer list or job software. You never forget, and you never have to think about it. The trade off is that the message comes from the platform’s number or email, not yours, and it goes out on a trigger rather than when you judge the moment is right.

Prepare and send yourself. Own Your Ratings writes the request and opens it in your phone’s Messages or Mail app, so the customer sees your own number. It tracks who clicked and reminds you to follow up, but nothing leaves without your thumb. The trade off is the mirror image: if you do not open the app, nothing happens.

Neither approach is more honest than the other. Pick the one you will actually use every week.

Tool by tool

Podium

Podium sells reviews as one part of a lead management platform: inbox, phones, webchat, payments, text marketing and an “AI Employee”. Its reviews page promises automated “review invites and reminders” and a mobile app for managing reviews (Podium). Published plans start at $399 a month, and every plan’s button says “Talk to Sales” (Podium). Worth it if you want the whole platform. Expensive if you only want reviews.

NiceJob

NiceJob is the closest thing to a pure review tool among the automatic senders. Starter, at $75 a month, covers text and email review requests, website review widgets, social sharing and a staff leaderboard. Pro, at $125, adds AI replies, referral campaigns and competitor tracking. It has a 14 day free trial and no contracts (NiceJob). If you want automation at a published price, start here. One caution: its Starter plan includes a “team leaderboard” of which staff drive the most five star reviews. Google’s policy now counts asking staff to solicit “a certain number of reviews” as a violation (Google), so use a leaderboard to celebrate, never to set targets.

Birdeye

Birdeye’s pages are written for multi location brands, and pricing starts with a form (Birdeye). Its review generation agent “asks each customer at the moment they’re most likely to respond” and promises more reviews “from the customers most likely to leave one” (Birdeye). Because Google bans selectively soliciting positive reviews, ask Birdeye’s sales team how the agent decides whom to ask, and whether every customer gets a request. For a one truck business, Birdeye is probably more platform than you need.

Jobber Reviews

If Jobber already runs your schedule and invoices, its Reviews feature is the easiest test. According to Jobber’s help center, Reviews is available on all plans as part of the Marketing Suite. It sends requests by email and text when a job closes, a visit completes or an invoice is paid, then up to two follow ups three and five days later (Jobber). The pricing page lists the Marketing Suite at $99 a month (Jobber). Without Jobber, there is no reason to choose it.

Own Your Ratings

Own Your Ratings, made by our publisher, does one thing: it prepares Google review requests that you send yourself from your phone, by text or email, and tracks who opened the link. It has a free plan with one request a month, a Pro plan at $35 a month or $350 a year, 14 days of Pro to start and no contract. It works for Google only (Own Your Ratings). It suits an owner operator who wants each request to come from their own number. It does not suit a business that wants requests sent without anyone touching a phone.

Five questions to ask any vendor

  1. Who sends the message, and from which number?
  2. Does every customer get the same request? If the tool scores satisfaction first, ask what happens to the low scores. Our guide to Google’s review rules explains why that matters.
  3. What does a year cost with the carrier fees and add ons you will actually need?
  4. Is there a contract, and how do you cancel?
  5. Can you try it on real jobs before paying?

Our take

For most owner operators, the bottleneck is remembering to ask, not the software. If you will not open an app after every job, pay for automation: NiceJob if you want a standalone tool at a published price, Jobber’s Reviews if you already live in Jobber. If you would rather each request come from your own phone, at your moment, Own Your Ratings or simply a saved text with your Google link will do the job. Multi location operators should look at Birdeye and Podium.

Whatever you choose, the message matters as much as the tool: see how to ask for a Google review by text, which channel gets answered and how many reviews you need.
